throwing a house party next Saturday and having a good time putting together a playlist. I got a pretty eclectic list going with slightly more laid-back stuff for early on, to more body-moving material for mid-party, to increasingly oUt stuff as people become more inebriated. I'm not talking about blasting people with Black Dice at 2 AM, more like Beck's "Hollywood Freaks" (best first line ever: "hot milk/mmm, tweak my nipple"), maybe some old-school Nas, still working on it.
but I'd thought I'd throw it out there to the community. what are the songs you want to hear at a house party?

Howlin Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin" and the Love Theme from Flashdance
preferably back-to-back
Haha, potential late night weirdness option, thanks.
c'mon folks, step up, I want your picks.......
I got one more for you: "Sun God" by Cut Copy
It's long, but has a great flow and is the type of track where you can zone out and forget it's playing but then suddenly tune in again and realize that the music you're listening to is awesome
Any of the Ethiopiques stuff. It's mellow but also funky, laid-back but fun vibe always...
A couple long
tracks from the first LCD Soundsystem CD. Losing my Edge or perhaps or Yeah(Pretensious version)?
Ethiopiques might be cool for early on or way late night if shit gets dark and smoky. I got LCD Soundsystem in the playlist, more from their last album, "Dance yourself Clean" and "I can change", those are jams, but maybe I'll put in "losing my edge".
Hendrix - "Are You Experienced?"
I just heard it for the first time in a long while.... damn, that song rules.
Ramsey Lewis: Hot Dawgit
Fitz & The Tantrums: MoneyGrabber
Gang Gang Dance: Princes
If you want to blow people away check out,
Servotron: I Am Not A Voice Activated Child Identicon

Thanks, ya'll, some good stuff on here.
The Dirtbombs: Sharivari, Cosmic Cars
(Both highlights from their latest...which is a collection of Detroit techno covers.)
Jeremy Jay: In This Lonely Town
Amazing Baby: Headdress
Cold Cave: Life Magazine
Fresh and Onlys: Waterfall
damn, TJ, thanks, I don't know any of that shit, I'll check it out, but if it's on the techno-tip I doubt it's going to work for my thing.
It's through The Dirtbombs' lens...so it's very far removed from anything resembling techno. (I must admit, though, I have no idea what the originals sound like.)
If you're still feeling light in the hip hop dept., it might be worth digging through some of the many Beat Konducta volumes. Hell, even an occasional drop from the "Vol. 3-4: Beat Konducta in India" would be fun/funky.
