Yeah... Bummer. My neighbor in Takoma Park knew him a bit. He was the president of the international campaign for tibet. He said that Yauch was the "real" deal--as opposed to another of his celeb Buddhist acquaintances: Richard Gere.

I was massively into Check Your Head. I couldn't stand License to Ill and I didn't get Paul's Boutique--still don't, truth be told. I've really enjoyed almost every record since. I got a kick out of looking at the "reviews" in Pitchfork (for the old stuff, they're reviews of re-releases--and shockingly, absolutely shockingly the PF reviewer gave Paul's a 10 in 2009).

super bummed out about it. MCA was my favorite Beastie Boy. Huge loss.

Sad day. License To Ill was a turning point in my life. Nobody's parents would let them buy it, which made us want to get it that much more. Once my friends and I got it, we would have to listen in secret. We felt super cool just for being able to score a copy...even though we had no idea what a Brass Monkey was.
