Admittedly not my area of expertise, a friend sent me a link to this
Stoner Blog that looks pretty deep so I thought I'd pass it along. It seems like there are folks on here who dabble in this genre, if there are any must-haves on this thing I'd like to hear about it. Just grabbed the The second to last High On Fire thing I didn't have and there's a reissue of DC's fave Spine Of God? Who knew.

Word, i'm seeing every Boris, every Melvins, and every Desert Sessions CD.
And all Kyuss, even old school shit.
Just noticed that all the Melvin links are removed.
Yeah, "Spine of God" is pretty epic.... that has to be THE defining stoner rock album against which all other stoner rock albums are measured. Some of that early Kyuss shit too.
These days I hear "Doom" mentioned a lot along with stoner rock, but most of that stuff just puts me to sleep (a good thing at times). I really dig "Earth 2", and I like some of the new americana stuff that he's doing now; that seems like a pretty awesome evolution of sound, it's almost more heavy now, albeit in much subtler ways
For me, though, if Im stoned and want to hear some metal, Ill usually go with some classic death metal or grind core. Like "Napalm Death", those guys have been going strong for over 20 years and they still bring it bigtime:

FYI: if you check out the above video, note the guy signing the lyrics, and make sure you stick around for the breakdown part at around 2:30
Appreciated the Napalm Death vid, like that they're still at it, but what am I noticing about the singer and the breakdown? Funny that dude had a 12 string in the video, though I couldn't really notice it in the audio, interesting....
HA! I had a feeling someone would misread that..... not the siNGer, the thing to note is that there's a guy siGNing the lyrics.... as in using sign language to communicate the lyrics, which fits in nicely with the song title "THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING!"
As for the breakdown part, it's just awesome! one of the thing that always keeps me coming back to Napalm Death (and Grindcore in general), are those parts where they downshift from speed/thrash into a total lock-groove.... heavy as shit
No idea what's up with the 12 string through :)
I thought "signing" but didn't notice anyone doing it at first. Just noticed that little box in the corner, cool.
