Destroyer - Kaputt

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. I think this may be post worthy. This is something that last week, I would've never imagined myself listening to. Kind of borderline schmaltzy a little at first? But after listening to it while shoveling all that snow? Recommended.
Now I'll listen to again whilst I lay on this heating pad...

Yeah, I wasn't sure that would fly on here. I love him (Destroyer's Rubies is my fave) but I have questionable tastes in 80's stuff and this guy is like Momus fronting Prefab Sprout. If that sounds good to you though, don't miss this, the dudes got the chops for it.

I like Rubies as well, I also have This Night, which I don't like as much. He's interesting, but sometimes I wanna punch him.

I really like this record. It's the perfect follow-up to the Bay of Pigs single that came out last year. Bay of Pigs had actually become my favorite Destroyer recording, replacing Rubies, and then this came out. I like the cheese- His lyrics and delivery and pretension are so over the top so often anyway that when it does work, it's in part because of the cheese. When it doesn't work, yeah, ugh. I like that this record still has the whole destroyer song structure intact- they've just replaced the usual instruments with ones borrowed from OMD. And all the nods to early New Order do my heart good. You can listen to the whole thing here:
