Capstone, as it were

Yea, the end was near (at the time) but, unlike, say, "The White Album," in which the Fab Four were never in the same (recording) room simultaneously, the Liverpudlians apparently put their differences aside for "Abbey Road." And we're all grateful for that. Conceptual heaven, the album features the best love song ever written ("Something"), according to Frank Sinatra and, had he put down the test tubes and the scale and run for U.S. president, the campaign theme song for Timothy Leary ("Come Together").

All these classic rock posts are weak.....

"Woman of the Ghetto" is one of the all-time baddest tunes in history. Who's with me?

If that's weak, post above is lame-ass. Comment on the tunes not the person, Chief.

Well I hadn't heard Woman of the Ghetto until Rootless' post made me want to check it out, where as you're about the zillionth guy to go on about the Beatles (and don't get me started about Pet Sounds) when most of the Earth already knows what they are about down to the intimate album details. Are you honing your skills for a Rolling Stone Interview?
You write very well and I appreciate how much you post, but I think most people on this thing fancy their tastes to run pretty deep. So what else you got?

Gabino: Point well taken re running deeper. Have no idea what the Rolling Stone comment means. And forever characterizing the Beatles, particulalry post '66 material, as "classic rock" betrays a certain limitation about music.

Even so, here's the tag for this blog. Am I missing something?

Check out the new new shit we are listening to, or thoughts on old classics.

Peace-

Yeah, i'd def file these under "thoughts on old classics".

I prefer "Check out the new new shit we are listening to" posts.

I don't really like the Beatles.

I think Schwartz and Rootless should fight and we can stream it live on the blog.

Attempt at bad humor. Interview as in job interview, get it?

Post what you dig. Is posting about Entroducing,"new" or some of these old jazz records? I've been turned on to some really cool jams by reading this blog-o-rama. Its way more interesting when people don't agree and battle regarding their opinions on music. Everyone agreeing on how great Animal Collective/Prefuse73/Pitchfork reviewed electronica etc., is really boring. Just wait til I post the Shaolin ceremonial flute music I rock out with! Where is my WWALT T-Shirt DC?

Amen, brother.

Music battles, love it.

Well said, S.O.S.

Also, i'd like to apologize about my comment about those dudes fighting. It was was dumb & annoying. Why make it about them when it is the blog I started & am probabaly even more annoyed than rootless by Beatles posts?

To each his own, that's all I know.

Damn! Just when I was about to post about "Dark Side Of The Moon."
Anybody hear of that one?

DC said...

well played, EJ. Well played.

Balance is key.

Speaking of which - I was just noticing we don't seem to have nearly enough posts featuring female artists whom "we are listening to..."

Perhaps I'll do something next week. Maybe even one a day?

Some may be a bit obvious to some, but I think it's long overdue, regardless.

I'll dub it Lillith Fair week.

Kidding (about that last part).

Got to hand it to MPS for at least riling everyone up, his posts get about 10 more comments than all the other ones.....

Here to help.

It's just music!

Shine on.

that said, i really like pj harvey. has anyone heard her new record? i have not. maybe i'll get on that today.

^ ^ The new PJ is really good. That's actually one of the albums that spawned that thought. The title track makes my boys retract. Haha. (You'll know what I mean when you hear it.)

She's most definitely a badass.
